You’re Terrible at Risk Assessment (And It’s Going to Cost You)

Most high-performers run flawless due diligence in business…then gamble recklessly with the one asset that actually matters.

Before we get to this month’s Newsletter, I’m hosting a private mastermind for a small group of men who are serious about running their health the way they run their business…calculated, informed, strategic. If anything you read below resonates, you need to be there.

Most successful men would never make a major business move without a risk assessment. You’d run the numbers. You’d weigh the upside against the downside. You’d stress test the scenarios.

But when it comes to your health? You act like a gambler at the blackjack table.

I’ll give you an example. I like to drive fast. Too fast, probably. But I also drive a big SUV. Why? Because I don’t trust the other guy on the road. If someone hits me, I want the size and protection on my side. That’s risk mitigation.

Now here’s what I see all the time:

A successful guy, sharp, driven, killing it in business. He hears about testosterone or peptides on a 60-second reel from some gym-bro influencer with zero interest in your biology who says it’s “next-level” or a “cheat code”. So he finds an online pharmacy, gets the prescription, starts injecting or popping pills… without ever testing his baseline hormones, liver function, or cardiovascular risk.

He’s basically signing a contract he hasn’t read.

Or take the guy who finally decides to fix that nagging knee or back issue. He books the surgery, but he’s going under the knife with shit sleep, high inflammation, and poor metabolic health.

Then he’s shocked when recovery drags on for months or complications pop up.

Same pattern. Zero due diligence. Just hope and a prescription pad.

Let’s go back to my habit of driving too fast.

If I’m going to drive fast, I’m doing it in a vehicle that gives me an edge if things go wrong. If I’m going to optimize with peptides or hormones, I’m running a full panel first: genetics, bloodwork, metabolic markers—so I know exactly what I’m working with and what the risks are.

And if I ever needed surgery? I’d spend months beforehand optimizing my entire lifestyle and recovery capacity so my body is primed to heal fast, not just survive.

Call it cautious if you want. I call it not being an idiot.

After working with over a hundred high-performers, I can tell you, most guys don’t even know their inherent risks. They don’t know what their genetics predispose them to. They don’t test. They don’t assess. They just assume they’re fine… until they’re not.

Let’s be honest, you don’t treat your health like a business problem. So let’s reframe it in business terms you actually use every day.

  • You diversify your portfolio… but you run your health on caffeine and 4 hours of sleep.
  • You insure your assets… but you never bother to insure your body by proactively testing and tracking your biomarkers.
  • You stress-test business plans… but you’ve never stress-tested how your body performs under travel, lack of recovery, or high-pressure decision making.
  • You have contingency plans for deals going south… but zero plan if your health suddenly collapses.

That’s not a strategy. That’s recklessness.

I’m a true optimizer…and part of that is knowing which bets aren’t worth placing. Even when I’m testing new protocols on myself, there are things I won’t touch. Not because I’m scared, but because the risk-reward doesn’t make sense when you actually run the data. I experiment, but I’m calculated.

Would you ever dump capital into a deal with no due diligence? Would you greenlight a merger without running the downside scenarios? Of course not.

If you’re like most men, you gamble your health like it’s a casual hand of poker. They roll the dice with prescriptions, surgeries, procedures, or “miracle hacks” without even asking if their genetics, biology, or long-term risk profile supports it.

And then they wonder why they burn out, break down, or drop dead years too early.

Ignoring risk doesn’t make it go away.

Your body is the ultimate business. If it collapses, every deal, every asset, every plan you’ve built goes with it.

So I’ll leave you with this: Do you assess risk in your health with the same diligence you bring to your boardroom decisions? Or are you winging it, hoping luck is on your side?

If that stings, good. It should.

Cheers!

Deepak
